Creative Impact Presents: The Paint & Sip w/ Cherry and Nurse Boogz

Creative Impact is back at 2727 California for our April installment of our Paint and Sip series! This time around we will be joined by Cherry as our lead artist and Nurse Boogz providing us with live original music. Light snacks will be available on site with food and drink available to purchase. Vinyl will be spun by our in-house DJ Seamless. Come and join us for another night of creativity, community building and artistic inspiration!

Artist Bios:

Cherry

Cherry is an Indigenous artist of Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan and Borikén descent. She was born and raised in the East Bay and has been an activist for over 20 years. She is a self-taught DJ and painter with the Oakland-based art collective Le Vanguard.

She loves inside jokes and aims to make meme paintings that bring people in on the joke while also making them uncomfortable laughing. More than anything, she paints what she feels and dreams. In this way, her paintings are not meant to be of the self but linked to the subconscious which in turn is holistically connected to the greater collective consciousness.

Nurse Boogz

Marina “Nurse Boogz” Stankov-Hodge is an astrologer, musician, dancer, and registered nurse. In short she is a multimedia storyteller who digests the difficulties of life through the arts. She is currently working on her first album which will be an ode to all forms of unconditional love. Her music has been described as “a warm hug”, “unconditional love”, and “a mantra”. She aspires to work more in the music industry curating music for film and editorial playlists. She also grew up in the Hip Hop generation and enjoys writing about African-diasporic music in all forms. Follow her on whatever streaming platform you use under her artist name “Nurse Boogz” and be on the lookout for more music from her soon.

Her astrology practice is informed by both modern and traditional techniques. She finds that the healing exchange she provides and receives through her astrology practice is much more sustainable than her part time work as a nurse in the failing US healthcare system. She has spent two decades working as a nurse in public hospitals in the inner city where she regularly encounters the underbelly of society such as human trafficking, immigration policy, women's health issues, and addiction. She processes the experiences of life through her art and spent several decades as a professional breakdancer.

She is a Fulbright Arts Alumni for her work in Brazil combining reproductive health and violence prevention with break dance and received her masters in diplomacy and International Relations in Geneva Switzerland.

Her background as a Serbian and African American gives her a unique cultural perspective on many of today's political issues as well, and she enjoys writing about her unique take on current events.
