Creative City Conversations | 001
About this Event
This series features topical discussions between two or more creatives, from the same or different fields. We invite filmmakers, designers, historians, artists, musicians and more to discuss new ideas or break down their latest projects from home and afar.
________
Our very first guests, creative director Danielle Huthart and design historian Billy Potts, will explore Lane Crawford’s visual identity archive, some of which has not been seen in public before. The iconic department store's brand identity was developed in the mid-1960s by Henry Steiner, the influential graphic designer whose work represents the city’s most transformative decades.
Steiner & Co. recently unearthed more of the archive including sketches and early research that Billy, as the studio’s newest partner, has been interpreting. In this talk, Danielle will also share personal insights into the period when her father was the company’s managing director for nearly three decades. RS Huthart was widely credited for the commercial success of transforming the company from offering post-war general supplies to an early purveyor of luxury goods. The two graphic designers will discuss the brand’s recent history, share personal memories and ponder the future of visual identity in contemporary Hong Kong.
Danielle Huthart is a Creative Director helping people and brands align visually, emotionally and holistically through thoughtful design and storytelling. With over two decades of experience leading visual identity, brand systems, and creative strategy, her work sits at the intersection of strategy, design and wellness.
Billy Potts is a Hong Kong-born designer and writer whose work is rooted in the city’s heritage and visual culture. Through his practice, Potts bridges design, heritage, and cultural memory, offering insight into how the city’s visual past shapes its present and future.
