Creative Arts Conference: Culture and the Civic Agenda
26 and 27 March 2024
Deadline for proposals 23 February 2024.
The School of Creative Arts is pleased to announce an internal conference for research students and staff on the broad theme of ‘Culture and the Civic Agenda’. Research in the School largely focuses on the critical analysis of, and production of, cultural artefacts and performances, with strong community engagement aimed at making a difference in the world. This conference will share and celebrate the School’s research and the positive impact it has on people’s lives and the environment:
This call is for papers outlining:
a) 20 minute in-person presentations involving research discussion and/or creative performance.
b) 20 minute online presentations.
c) Poster presentations (A0 size, supplied as PDF).
The conference envisions the ‘civic agenda’ as applying research in ways which benefit local communities as well as addressing larger systemic issues for the benefit of all communities and the ecosystems which life depends on. Presentations can be on any topic which relates to culture and involves some form of engagement beyond academia.
The conference is intended to create a space in which multidisciplinary knowledge can be shared, analysed, and transformed, with a particular focus on the contributions and participation of postgraduate research students at any stage of their research journey.
Please send proposals for presentations to [email protected]. They should be no more than 300 words in length and should be accompanied by a short biography of up to 100 words. The deadline for submissions is 23 February 2024.
The conference will take place on 26 March and 27 March 2024 in person at Francis Close Hall, Cheltenham. There will also be two parallel online-only sessions at different times to allow participation from distance students in different time zones.
Attendance is free of charge.
Further event details (times, online sessions, meeting space, etc.) will be provided pending accepted proposals and the number of attendees. More information will be provided prior to the conference dates.
