Creating Sacred Third Spaces with Sherry Waters

This workshop explores the art of Radical Hospitality—a practice rooted in the Rule of St. Benedict that centers on truly welcoming others with open hearts. Participants will learn how to curate inclusive spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and understood, both in the physical environment and in community interactions.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

• Gain a deeper understanding of what creates welcoming, inclusive environments.
• Learn to apply principles of intentional design and radical hospitality in both home and professional settings.
• Be inspired to replicate meaningful aspects of sacred, inclusive spaces in their daily lives.
• Cultivate a spirit of intentionality and love in the way they design and engage with space.
  

The experience unfolds in three interconnected parts, each guiding participants from self-awareness to community connection.

• Explore how personal identity and perception shape the way we welcome others.
• Reflect through the lens of the Enneagram: Who we think we are, What activates or challenges us, How we respond to difference, When we have been “the other” — and how that felt (snubbed or embraced)
• Develop awareness of how our inner world influences the spaces we create.
  

• Learn how physical design and atmosphere communicate belonging.
• Explore Feng Shui and Hygge principles for warmth, comfort, and invitation.
• Create a vision board for your own “sacred space.”
• Discover practical ways to translate these ideas into homes, offices, and community environments.
  

• Practice using space intentionally to foster connection and inclusion.
• Explore rituals and habits that build community and nurture authentic hospitality.
• Identify small shifts that make shared spaces more inclusive and relational.

About Your Instructor:

Sherry Waters is a Social Entrepreneur & Personal Stewardship Coach/Practitioner who is passionate about increasing awareness on community stewardship and personal responsibility. She coaches individuals on being better stewards of everything with which they've been entrusted. Through IEnate, LLC, Sherry inspires others to use their talents, resources and skills to live their lives serving others and the community. Sherry is also a Community Chaplain and interfaith Spiritual Director.

She opened The Pauline Tea-Bar Apothecary - a sacred tea lounge cafe’ - in July 2019. Sherry's vocational career has been in the fund development/marketing field for several Charlotte nonprofit organizations - including the YMCA, Communities in Schools, The Harvest Center and Supportive Housing Communities. A former clinical chaplain for Carolinas Healthcare System, Sherry infuses her spiritual care experiences as a chaplain and holistic integrative wellness support in the stewardship coaching and spiritual care that she provides.

She has had the opportunity to work and volunteer in the nonprofit arena for over thirty years in Charlotte; and she serves on several community boards - including Braveworks and Novant Health’s CPE Professional Advisory Group (which she serves as chair). She has her Master's of Practical Theology/Pastoral Counseling & Care from Pfeiffer University, a B.A degree in Communications from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill; and her certification in Nonprofit Management from Duke University. She is a member of the Spiritual Care Association, the NC Chaplains Association, Charlotte Mecklenburg Black Chamber, NXT Charlotte Business Accelerator Cohort 9, Grafted Life Spiritual Directors, and a Ruth G. Shaw Leadership Mentor for Central Piedmont Community College.
