Meet your Instructor
Lisa Pelgrim is a sculptor and mixed media artist who enjoys working with a variety of materials. Her earliest memory of clay involves collecting and then creating a cat from natural clay found on the floor of Lake Michigan, while traveling with her artist mother at the age of 4. She loves the tactile nature and variability of clay. While primarily self-taught she has studied at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, De Anza College, Mission College, UC Santa Cruz and Santa Clara University, where she earned her undergraduate and MBA degrees. Her work often incorporates nature, an appreciation of botanical shapes, and is influenced by the Japanese and Hawaiian aesthetics of her upbringing. Her studio is located at Visual Philosophy Studio, where she is an active member of the community.
