About this Event
In this in-person workshop led by author and speaker , attendees will gain a foundational understanding of what it means to be trans and nonbinary, learn about the challenges that gender diverse people experience when purchasing a home, and develop the skills needed to not only interact respectfully with gender diverse people, but also support them through the turnkey home ownership transaction.
Proceeds from this event will be donated to Lambert House, empowering lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth through the development of leadership, social, and life skills.
Through this training attendees will:
1. Discover unconscious cultural assumptions about gender and how they impact our understanding of, and comfortability with, trans and nonbinary people.
2. Develop understanding of gender diversity by learning about gender-related terms (gender identity, gender expression, biological sex, intersex, sexual orientation) and various gender identities (cisgender, transgender, nonbinary).
3. Develop empathy by meeting trans and nonbinary people of all ages and ethnicities, and their families, through video clips and trainer's personal story.
4. Understand the 3 aspects of transitioning (social, legal and physical).
5. Be equipped to interact respectfully with gender diverse people (learn about pronouns, offensive terms/actions to avoid, and how to diffuse offensive jokes or comments, navigating differing personal or religious beliefs and more!).
6. Learn about the challenges that gender diverse people face when obtaining loans and establishing credit.
7. Be informed on how navigating a legal name change complicates the process of obtaining loans and establishing credit for gender diverse customers.
8. Get questions answered through Q&A opportunities
This workshop is underwritten by Ensemble and made possible by the generosity of our partner event partners. CE credit (clock hours) are not available for this event.
