Edinburgh Libraries are celebrating women's History Month 2022. Join us as we create a public monument to Edinburgh's inspiring women!
About this Event

For this event, we have taken inspiration from a project entitled ‘Work In Progress’, the brainchild of US artists Jann Haworth and Liberty Blake. Their public artwork aims to celebrate women throughout history who have been catalysts for positive change. (See a detail from work below.)

With the artists’ permission, Central Library is going to create our own Edinburgh version! We want to shine a light on Edinburgh women’s stories and their contributions to our shared history, and we invite you to join us. As a workshop participant, you will have the chance to select the heroine of your choice from over 150 nominated trailblazers and pioneers, past and present. Artists and staff will be on hand to help you cut and paint your stencilled portrait – no prior experience necessary. Library staff will then collage all the finished portraits together to form a mural, which will be exhibited at Central Library in May 2022, date TBC.

Free, but ticketed. Limited places, booking essential. As we will be using sharp tools, this event is limited to over 18s only. A first-aid trained member of staff will be available.
