Is that a native plant garden or a lawn full of weeds? It’s not always easy to tell — which can lead to fines for well-meaning homeowners.
About this Event

Join us to learn about what local governments and HOAs in Indiana can do to support native plant gardens and how you can get involved. Afterward, we’ll tour a garden for a hands-on look at what these plants do for the community and the ecosystem. Register and share your questions. Light refreshments will be provided.

The conversation will be moderated by Indiana Public Broadcasting energy and environment reporter, Rebecca Thiele.

Speakers include:

  • Aja Yasir, Gary Holistic Farmer
  • Chad Shaw, City of Fort Wayne Superintendent of Parks Planning, Landscape and Horticulture
  • Freya Berntson, Northeast Indiana Native Plant Society Stewardship Chair
  • Steve Sass, Indiana Nature LLC, President

Following the conversation at Electric Works, we will head over to nearby Poplar Village Gardens to tour their garden and community food forest. Participants can ask questions and gather information to prepare or continue their own native plant garden. The garden tour is expected to begin at 7 p.m.
