Create & Connect: Sari Stories Workshop
About this Event
Sari Stories with Beeja
Join artists from Beeja for a two-hour interactive workshop exploring identity, memory, belonging and cultural exchange through the sari. Hear stories about the sari's many lives, as a garment, a memory, a connection to home and a carrier of culture, and share your own experiences of clothing, identity, migration and belonging.
Try different sari draping styles, learn simple movement inspired by the stories shared, and help create a short contemporary movement piece drawing on South Asian dance traditions. The session closes with an informal celebration and a shared presentation of the drapes, stories and movement made together.
About the artists
Beeja was founded by Anusha Subramanyam, a dancer, choreographer, teacher and dance movement therapist working both inside and outside the bharatanatyam tradition. Beeja, meaning "seed", works as a collective to make Indian dance accessible to wider audiences, performing everywhere from mainstream venues to museums, hospitals, schools and village halls. beeja.com
