About this Event
All proceeds benefit CRDANCE Company’s 2023 Premiere of a new ballet, Morso D’Amore, choreographed by Caterina Rago.
After two years, CRDANCE Company is proud to return to live performances with entirely new sections of Morso D’Amore that will debut on December 4, 2021 at the Martha Graham Studio Theater. As part of a major fundraising campaign, CRDANCE Company will also launch a virtual performance of Morso D’Amore simultaneously. We happily invite you to be part of both of these performances and to support CRDANCE Company in any way you can, so that together we can realize the completion of a work that continues to travel the world and make a profound impact.
As part of a Kickstarter fundraising campaign, CRDANCE Company, brings together the best of Morso D’Amore, with unusual new sections developed on Zoom during lock/down via the Porta Regia series that combines theater and virtual presentations. The new sections of Morso are highly energetic and somewhat frenetic, as we see a groundswell of dancers and music at the center of live action intrigue. The frenetic quality also speaks to the underlying tensions and struggles of the last two years where we have all focused on the un-escapable Pandemic.
Morso D’Amore, powerful for its use of confrontation and subterfuge, is a ballet that upends the classic tarantella —a dance rooted in the traditions of Southern Italy during the 15th to 17th centuries. Morso, especially with the introduction of these new sections, presents an extremely contemporary work and one that deeply speaks to the struggles and agonies of the Pandemic and our search for some version of a cure. In Morso D’Amore that search is linked to the tarantella and its history of finding a way to cure the body of the poisonous bite of the tarantula. It was said that three or four days of dancing in a trance-like state would relieve the body of physical and psychological trauma. In Morso D’Amore (Bite of Love), the dance is imagined as a state of ecstasy or rebellion, recalling a strange imprisonment. A cycle of capture and release is at hand in this complex work that crosses global cultures and examines personal and political crisis.
For the December 4th performance, a theatrical performance and a live streaming event will again unite international audiences as we travel from virtual worlds to live worlds and live worlds to virtual ones. Experience new live action excerpts from MORSO D’AMORE in this first live performance in two years, much of which has been developed and choreographed entirely on Zoom and live in Rome.
