Craft Circle for Craft Week
About this Event
Sydney Craft Week reminds us that creativity belongs everywhere... in studios, galleries, workshops, homes, communities and around shared tables.
At The Poppet Centre, we are celebrating in our own way.
This special Craft Circle gathering invites parents and carers to take a little time out during the season of Sydney Craft Week to create, connect and catch their breath.
Being a parent is one of life’s greatest privileges, but it is also one of its busiest roles.
Between work, school lunches, sporting commitments, homework, family responsibilities and everything else that fills our calendars, it is easy to forget to make a little space for yourself.
That is exactly why we created Craft Circle.
Craft Circle is a welcoming creative circle where parents and carers can enjoy a couple of hours away from the busyness of everyday life. It is a place to slow down, make something with your hands, share a cuppa and spend time with other people who understand the joys and challenges of raising a family.
No artistic talent is required. No experience is necessary. And there is definitely no such thing as “Pinterest perfection.”
Whether you enjoy painting, clay play, knitting, crochet, macramé, collage, watercolours or simply trying something new, you will find a relaxed and supportive space waiting for you.
Every Circle is a little different. Some mornings the room is filled with conversation and laughter. Other mornings people quietly lose themselves in their creativity. Both are equally welcome.
This special Craft Week-inspired session is about celebrating creativity not as something perfect or polished, but as something wonderfully human.
A way to pause. A way to connect. A way to remember that making things with our hands can help us feel a little more grounded in ourselves.

MORE THAN JUST MAKING THINGS
At first glance, Craft Circle looks like a room full of parents making things together.
And that is exactly what it is.
But something else quietly happens around the table.
People slow down.
Conversations begin.
Friendships grow.
Laughter returns.
Research continues to show that creative activities can reduce stress, improve mood, encourage mindfulness, build confidence and support healthy brain function. We also know that spending time with people who understand your season of life can be just as important.
Craft Circle is not an art class. It is not group therapy.
It is simply a welcoming circle where creativity becomes the backdrop for connection, conversation and wellbeing.
Many parents tell us they leave feeling calmer than when they arrived.
That is exactly what we hoped for.
During Sydney Craft Week, when our city celebrates makers, materials, creativity and craft traditions, we think it is also worth celebrating the everyday creativity of parents — the people who are constantly making, mending, shaping, growing and holding family life together.
This Circle is for you.
MEET YOUR FACILITATOR
Craft Circle is led by Kait Luker, whose unique journey combines creativity, science and compassion.
Kait first studied Fine Arts, majoring in Ceramics, before completing Medical Science. For more than thirty years she has balanced teaching art to children and adults with coordinating children’s health and oncology research projects, while also working in frontline healthcare with Ambulance NSW.
Her unique combination of artistic creativity and scientific understanding creates a relaxed, encouraging environment where everyone feels comfortable exploring creativity at their own pace.
Kait is joined by members of The Poppet Centre team, ensuring every Craft Circle is welcoming, inclusive and full of good company.
HOW THE MORNING FLOWS
The coffee is usually brewing from around 9:45 am.
Doors open at 10:00 am and the creative space remains open until 12:00 pm.
Life does not always run to schedule, so neither do we.
Come when you can.
Stay as long as you like.
Whether you pop in for a coffee and a quick project or settle in for the whole morning, you will always be welcome.
Bookings are essential so we can prepare enough materials and, just as importantly, enough morning tea for everyone.
OUR PROMISE
We hope you will leave with something you have created.
More importantly, we hope you will leave feeling refreshed, connected and just a little lighter than when you arrived.
Because caring for your family often begins with making a little space to care for yourself.
Come for the crafts.
Stay for the company.
Leave feeling refreshed.
Because every parent deserves a place at the table.
