Craft and Color
About this Event
Welcome to Craft and Color, an immersive two-part musical journey that explores both the intricate architecture and the vibrant poetry of Hindustani music. The evening begins with Part 1: Anatomy of Khyal, offering audiences a rare, real-time window into the structural beauty of a live raga. As the performance unfolds, dynamic visual commentary will map the music avartan by avartan (beat cycle by beat cycle), providing a visual guide to the complex and mesmerizing framework of the classical tradition.
The program then transitions from structure to splendor in Part 2: Bandish ki Thumri: Rhythm and Rasa. This rhythmically alive movement presents a curated selection of gems from Lucknow's golden age, featuring the legendary compositions of Bindadin Maharaj, Emperor Wajid Ali Shah, Sanad Piya, and Vinod Piya. To deepen your experience, the performance is accompanied by live transliterations and translations, inviting you to connect just as intimately with the evocative poetry as with the music itself. Join us for an unforgettable evening of rhythm, rasa, and cultural discovery!
