is thrilled to present Constellation, our 2024 Pride Month celebration of queer community, diversity, and excellence in chamber music! Featuring multiple live performances and workshops every day, ChamberQUEER 2024: Constellation runs Tuesday, June 11 through Sunday, June 16 at MITU580.


EVENT DETAILS

Kebra-Seyoun Charles joins forces with dancer-choreographer Kobe Atwood Courtney and a team of dancers to present a workshop performance of their new evening-length ballet, Enby. This performance will incorporate choreography created live in the room, and will also include several movements from the full work and other music by Charles.


With outstanding virtuosity and the rare ability to communicate their ideas effortlessly to audiences, is poised to be a leader of their generation. In line with their upbringing, Kebra-Seyoun is able to give prominence to the dance qualities in all forms of music. Kebra-Seyoun has performed alongside esteemed improvisers and composers such as Jon Batiste at Carnegie Hall, and Tyshawn Sorey at the New England Conservatory. In addition to their solo career, Kebra-Seyoun Charles is a passionate chamber musician, playing with groups like East Coast Chamber Orchestra, A Far Cry, Palaver Strings, and the Sphinx Virtuosi as well as on the 2019 Emmy award-winning Broadway production of Hadestown. As if this weren’t enough, they also have 32 piercings.


was introduced to dance through Richmond Ballet’s Outreach program Minds in Motion. They trained with Richmond Ballet, under the encouragement of Jasmine Grace. They finished their training at San Francisco Ballet School. There, they were fortunate to perform pieces such as Balanchine’s “Stars and Stripes” and an excerpt from Jiri Kylian’s “Sarabande”. They then spent two years working with Orlando Ballet. They were able to learn from many different works such as “Lyric Pieces” by Jessica Lang and “Lambarena” by Val Caniparoli. They continued their career with Festival Ballet Providence, where they were able to dance leading roles in pieces choreographed by artists like Yury Yanowsky, Ja’ Malik, and Lia Cirio. They also recently started their choreographic career, setting work for Rhode Island Women’s Choreography Project. They look forward to the next chapter of their career as a member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet.
