About this Event
Grounding Scotland’s global impact in law
Scotland’s ambition is to make a positive contribution internationally and we have various existing and potential legislation that can support this goal. The meeting will discuss how new ideas, such as the Wellbeing and Sustainable Development Bill and a Feminist Foreign Policy, might enhance understanding of Scotland’s global contribution, and how existing tools, such as the National Performance Framework, could be improved.
Confirmed contributors to this roundtable-style meeting include:
Sarah Boyack MSP, on the Wellbeing & Sustainable Development (Scotland) Private Members Bill, and how it can address Scotland’s global responsibilities
Dr Graham Long, Newcastle University, on how additional metrics could be included in the National Performance Framework to measure spillover effects
Ben Thurman, Carnegie Trust, on how a new Commissioner would push forward a wellbeing and social justice approach
Claire Duncanson, Global Affairs Council, on the role of a feminist foreign policy for Scotland
Masangwi Mangandale, Kaporo Smallholder Farmers Association (KASFA) on the direct impact of Scottish supply-chain decisions
Martin Rhodes, Scottish Fair Trade Forum on the potential impact of tighter procurement regulation
The central question that participants will address is: how can new and improved legislation help Scotland make a positive global contribution?
