CPAWS Environmental After School Program - Ecole Julie-Riel

Winter is too long to spend in front of a screen, time to get excited about spring!

Give your child the gift of time playing outside with other children after school.

Let us teach them to love winter as we spark their interest in the natural world.

Students will spend 1.5 hours in the Ecole Julie-Riel schoolyard playing games and learning about Manitoba's animals, plants, climate, trees, soil and more.

Children learn how to have fun in the snow and to explore the wildlife and plants that can be found in their neighbourhood.

This six week outdoor program incorporates inquiry and hands-on learning, crafts, and group games with a focus on conservation and connecting children to nature.

Programming will be moved into the gym as required for the comfort and safety of the children.

This program was developed by a certified classroom teacher and is tied to the Manitoba curriculum.

There are only 25 spots available, so register now! This is only open to grade 2-6 students.

Who is running the program?

Two environmental educators will run the sessions. An Ecole Julie-Riel teacher will remain onsite to supervise and provide support if needed.

When the program runs:

This registration is only for students at George V School. The program runs Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm beginning on March 16, 2023 and ending on April 27, 2023.

*Break between March 27 and April 2, Spring Break, No programming*

Cost: $65 plus taxes ($72.80 total) for the 6 week program.

Logistics:

Parents do not need to transport their child to the program. Their teachers will be advised to direct the students to the meeting place in the schoolyard.

The program will begin with a brief snack/rest break to transition from the school day. Please be sure that your child has an after-school snack and water bottle.

The core learning program ends at 4:30 p.m. and the student pick-up window is between 4:30 - 4:45 p.m.

This program is held outdoors. Please ensure that your child is dressed adequately for the weather (hat/coat/mitts/snow pants)

In the case of extreme adverse weather conditions, sessions will be held indoors.
