Cowal u3a June General Meeting - Far from Everywhere: Travels to St Helena and Ascension
Advertisement
In 2015, u3a committee members, John and Janet Parker took one of the last Royal Mail Ship voyages to the remote islands of St Helena and Ascension in the South Atlantic. This talk will recount some of their experiences including photos of the voyage and the islands. One of many highlights of the trip included meeting St Helena’s most famous resident, Jonathan the giant tortoise, now nearly 200 years old. On reaching Ascension, things didn’t quite go to plan, but it was without doubt the trip of a lifetime!
