CovLab (#2)

Welcome to CovLab!

Imagine your favorite meal without a variety of spices or a world with only one style of art or music. Imagine what would be lost if we were all the same, living the same story with the same ideas, same experiences, same dreams, same limitations, and the same gifts.

We obviously thrive on variety: whether as individuals or as a community, it helps us grow. How might we cultivate the power of our differences? How might we realize that there is not just one, but many different Covingtons, which are all connected? How might we learn from friendly strangers through respectful dialogue and storytelling? How can we become better together?

This is an experiment for anyone who lives in Covington, works here, plays here, or simply is invested in this community! It will include a combination of workshop methods designed to make sense of complexity and discover opportunities for individual growth (and perhaps for collaboration).

This is not about consensus or advocating a particular perspective or telling anyone what to think. People are already incredibly resourceful and these techniques create an atmosphere to share that wisdom.

This is also not about anyone selling services or products. Nor is it a chance to vent or be cynical or competitive in any way. It is simply a test to see if breaking away from our normal routines to converse with those we don't normally talk with may be insightful and maybe even inspirational.

About the Organizer

Col Jason "TOGA" Trew (US Air Force, retired) graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1999. After flying for the first half of his career, he spent the last decade focused on innovations in education, strategy, and leadership. This included a year studying at the Air Force school for strategists, earning a PhD in the history of technology, revitalizing the Air Force leadership school, coaching innovation teams in government and industry, and leading the design team for Space Force education.

He has extensive training in facilitation and design thinking and is also certified as a performance coach, personal trainer, and an Ironman triathlon coach.

After his final military assignment as the Commandant of the premier strategy course in the Department of Defense, he joined the faculty of the Savannah College of Art and Design as a Professor of Design Management.

TOGA is an author, keynote speaker, and executive coach using his experience as a fighter pilot, commander, innovator, and award-winning educator to elevate the performance of others. He partners with high performing teams to “go above”... to see, think, and live at a higher level!
