Couture Dress Cake Class
Where cake decorating meets couture fashion. ✨ Create an elegant, fully edible sculpted dress cake while learning advanced techniques in carving, modeling chocolate, edible fabrics, lace, texture, shimmer, and dimensional design.
This advanced cake class is designed for decorators ready to move beyond traditional round cakes and explore the artistry of sculpted and dimensional cake design.
Students will create an elaborate couture-inspired gown featuring a hand-sculpted bodice and carved cake skirt, then build the dress layer by layer using a variety of edible mediums designed to mimic real fabric.
You'll work with delicate edible lace, tulle, satin and fabric effects, dimensional ruffles, pearls, impression textures, shimmer, glitter, and other embellishments to transform cake and modeling chocolate into something that looks remarkably like an intricately constructed couture gown.
While the cake carving itself is relatively approachable, the sculpting, fabric work, layering, detailing, and finishing techniques are considerably more advanced, making this class ideal for decorators who already understand the basics and are ready for a challenge.
What You'll Learn
How to plan and construct a 3D sculpted cake
How to carve cake into the foundation of a dimensional gown
How to sculpt a couture-style bodice from modeling chocolate
Techniques for shaping and refining modeling chocolate into smooth, realistic forms
How to create edible fabric effects
Working with edible lace
Creating delicate edible tulle
Techniques for creating the appearance of satin and flowing fabric
How to create and arrange ruffles, pleats, folds, draping, and layered fabric
How to use impression mats to add realistic textile texture

Working with pearl and luster dusts to create soft shimmer and dimension

Skill Level
Intermediate to Advanced | Ages 18+
This is not a beginner cake class.
You do not need to be an advanced decorator to attend, and intermediate students are absolutely welcome. However, students should already have basic cake-decorating knowledge and some previous hands-on cake experience.
If you have never decorated a cake before, we strongly recommend completing one of our beginner cake classes before registering for this project.
Class Price
$250 per student + applicable sales tax and credit card processing fees
Due to the extensive preparation, specialty materials, and advanced nature of this project:
No discounts, coupons, promotional offers, or membership discounts may be applied to this class.
Advanced 3D specialty classes exceeding the $200 price point are excluded from membership discounts as disclosed within the membership terms.
Deposit Ticket Information
If you choose the 50% Deposit Ticket, the remaining balance will be invoiced to the email address used when registering exactly one month before the class date. This invoice will also serve as your class reminder and your final opportunity to request any eligible cancellation or transfer. All remaining balances are due one month prior to the scheduled class date.
Late Arrival Policy
Our Advanced 3D Cake Classes are full-day, fast-paced classes, and arriving on time is essential. Students who arrive one hour or more late without contacting us before class begins will be denied entry and will forfeit all funds paid.
We understand that unexpected delays happen—especially for students traveling from out of town or out of state. If you know you are running late, please email us before the scheduled class start time so we can determine what accommodations, if any, can be made.
Late arrivals can significantly delay instruction for the entire group, so please plan accordingly and allow extra travel time. Arriving a little early is always encouraged!
Lunch Break & What to Bring
Because our Advanced 3D Cake Classes are full-day, hands-on classes, we will do our best to take a 30–45 minute lunch break, depending on the group's progress and where we are in the construction process. Lunch may fall anywhere between 12:00–2:00 p.m.
Weekend traffic in Lafayette can make leaving for lunch and returning on time difficult, so we strongly recommend bringing a meal with you. Food delivery may also be an option if the storefront is open; however, hours may vary, particularly during the holidays.
For a more comfortable day, we recommend bringing plenty of drinks and snacks, a light jacket (the classroom can get chilly), an apron, and—if you'd like—a seat cushion, as classroom chairs can become uncomfortable during an extended class.
