Countdown turns 50. Get ready to party!
Countdown is turning 50 and to celebrate all those magical moments in Australian music history, ABC Radio Adelaide is hosting the biggest party in town!
Countdown roared onto ABC television in 1974, changing Australian pop culture forever. For over a decade, we collectively tuned in every Sunday night to watch the latest bands and emerging artists, and count down to the number one single.
The influence Countdown and legendary host, Molly Meldrum had on the Australian music scene was immense, helping build the careers of both homegrown performers and a new breed of international artists.
Relive all the nostalgia and memories of one of Australia’s most popular music programs, as ABC Radio Adelaide celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Countdown..........Countdown…....[...drum solo...]…. COUNTDOWN50!
Join your favourite ABC Radio Adelaide presenters for this one-off local event, celebrating Countdown in Your Town.
Get set to enjoy live performances as we belt out some of the iconic hits from the 70s and 80s Countdown era:
Legendary ABC Band with their version of one of the best songs from the year 1977 – what will it be?
Popular Adelaide band, Chunky Custard will join the party with your favourite hits from the 70’s and 80’s including
Frankie Valli, Katrina & The Waves, Jacksons, Abba, Bee Gees, Bon Jovi, Wham, Tina Turner and AC/DC to name a few
DJ Jaki J will round out the night, spinning even more Countdown hits with the original Countdown film clips on the big screens.
Entry is free, but spaces are limited so you’ll need to book to join the party. .

So, dust off your dancing shoes, get your sequins and shoulder pads ready because, as Molly Meldrum famously said, ‘do yourself a favour’, tune in and turn up to an anniversary celebration not to be missed.
Doors open 6pm with DJ Jaki J then ABC hosts and band from 7pm.
