Whether you're a hobbyist, artist, crafter, or maker, turning your creativity into a business is an exciting idea—but it can also feel overwhelming. Before investing in a website, LLC, equipment, or inventory, it's worth taking a step back to ask an important question:
Could this actually become a successful business?
In this interactive workshop, you'll learn a practical framework for evaluating the business potential of your skills, products, and ideas. Through guided activities and discussion, you'll explore different business opportunities, assess what makes an idea viable, identify your biggest unknowns, and leave with one small experiment you can use to test your idea in the real world.
This isn't about writing a business plan.
It's about building confidence, reducing uncertainty, and making thoughtful decisions before investing your time and money.
During this workshop, you'll:
- Define what success looks like for you
- Explore different ways your skills could become products, services, or businesses
- Evaluate a business opportunity using a practical five-part Opportunity Check
- Identify the biggest assumptions or questions you still need to answer
- Create a simple experiment to test your idea before making a larger commitment
Whether your goal is to earn extra income, fund your hobby, build a side hustle, or explore full-time self-employment, you'll leave with greater clarity and a practical next step.
What to Bring:
- Bring an idea, creative skill or product—or simply your curiosity. We'll provide the framework to help you explore what's possible.
- If you prefer typing over writing, bring your computer to complete the supporting worksheet.

Workshops with Coach Kate of guide participants in focused learning, development and conversation on specific topics, where she - along with additional subject matter experts at times - will provide specific guidance and resources; and answer your related questions. Think about everything from the maker’s mindset and burnout management to how to write a business plan; the nuts and bolts of starting a business; or building a brand and marketing strategy.
Kate Peabody, MBA, is an International Coaching Federation Professional Certified Coach pairing positive-psychology-based coaching with more than fifteen years of corporate & small business leadership, creative confidence and design-thinking experience. Kate loves being part of the CCM community to help makers balance work, life and time for their holistic wellbeing, and explore and take action on their potential as a professional maker.
