Cotton is a very short stapled fiber and can feel daunting to spin, especially if you have mostly spun animal fibers. However, given that it's summer in Maine, what better time to learn a new skill?!
In this class, we will learn how to make adjustments to our spinning wheels for cotton spinning. Each student will be given a variety of carded sliver and ginned cotton and learn how to card these into punis and rolags. We'll practice spinning singles, plying, and discuss how to finish yarns for knitting, crochet, and weaving.
Students need a general understanding of spinning wheel mechanics and need to know how to spin and ply a stable yarn.
