Cosmos Bridge Building Challenge

Put your engineering skills to the test in the Cosmos Bridge Building Challenge — a hands-on competition where creativity meets real-world design.

You are to design and construct a 1/2 metre bridge using popsicle sticks, PVA glue, and/or hot glue. Once built,bridges will be tested based on a marking rubric. First, bridges will be assessed on how much load they can hold before failure, along with their efficiency and structural design. Then a toy car will be driven across the bridge, and participants will be scored on how smoothly and safely their bridge supports the crossing.

Bridges will be judged using a detailed rubric that evaluates:

• Load-bearing capacity
• Strength-to-weight efficiency
• Structural design and engineering
• Construction quality
• Smoothness of car travel
• Creativity and aesthetics
• Material usage
• Compliance with competition rules

This competition is designed to increase your interest in engineering, design, and problem-solving. It encourages critical thinking, planning, hands on building skills and innovation

Whether you’re aiming to build the strongest bridge or the most efficient design, this is your chance to showcase your skills.

Groups of 2 will be selected. You can select your teammate by submitting a chit with your name at the back and names of 3 potential teammates arranged in order of preference.
