Join us for Cosmic Sounds of Dhrupad: A vocal performancefeaturing Pt. Umakant Gundecha, Anant Gundecha,Dhani Gundecha accompanied on Pakhavaj (percussion) by Pt. Akhilesh Gundecha
The Gundecha Brothers are leading exponents of dhrupad, North India's oldest classical musical form that is not often performed today. Disciples of the legendary Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, Pt.Umakant Gundecha is renowned for his performance of this deeply spiritual and meditative vocal tradition rooted in Vedic chant. He received Padmashri India's highest honor in the arts, in 2012, and have performed at music festivals and major concert halls throughout the world. Vocalists Umakant, Anant and Dhani Gundecha are joined by Akhilesh Gundecha on pakhawaj (barrel drum). The Gundecha Brothers run a school for dhrupad music in a beautiful and peaceful rural setting on the edge of Bhopal, India. More information can be found on their website. dhrupad.org
