EVENING BALLOON GLOW SCHEDULE:
Friday, August 7th, 2026 at approximately 6:30pm.
An amazing array of HOT AIR BALLOONS will light up the summer evening sky. Cortez Retail Enhancement Association and the City of Cortez Parks Department are thrilled to host this fun and educational event!
This year also “launches” SUMMER SEND-OFF: Cortez’s newest signature celebration, blending the long-loved Balloon Rendezvous with a fresh, community wide evening of music, culture, and end of summer fun. The event kicks off at 5 PM with a special reading of the Cortez 140 Proclamation, followed by performances from local groups, community interviews, and live entertainment throughout the night. Guests can explore cultural and historical exhibitors, enjoy food and beverage vendors, and experience tethered balloon rides in the south field. As the sun sets, the park lights up with a stunning Balloon Glow, followed by a 15 minute drone show honoring the Cortez 140, Colorado 150, and USA 250 anniversaries. TETHERED BALLOON rides, sponsored by Cortez Retail Enhancement Association and the City of Cortez Parks & Rec Dept. The rides are FREE on a first-come, first-served basis with a $5 per person donation to local non-profit organization Our Own Lives. For safety, only ages 7 & up will be allowed with a signed waiver at time of ride. Other restrictions may apply, please check at the event.
We are excited to welcome REMOTE CONTROL BALLOONS! They are a joy to watch and interesting to learn about. Come check out these model scale hot air balloons!
LIVE REMOTE BROADCAST with Kelly Turner/KRTZ Radio including answers to your questions about hot air balloons, sponsor shout-outs, fun facts and interesting hot air balloon details, as well as ongoing event info.
INFO TABLE with the City of Cortez Parks & Recreation Department including KIDS ACTIVITIES, EVENT DETAILS and WHAT’S HAPPENING with the Parks & Recreation department this summer.
We encourage you to shop and dine in Cortez before and after the balloon glow to SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES. Vendors at the park will be limited.
Watch the BALLOONS SET UP for the evening, MEET the ground crews, TALK to pilots and SEE how the balloons are inflated. Collect BALLOON CARDS from all of the balloons! Then enjoy the amazing BALLOON GLOW!
Interested in hands on experience? We’re looking for volunteer crew to help our pilots during these events! If you’re interested, arrive at 7:00pm at Parque de Vida.
