Corporate Rebels North America's Inaugural Event
About this Event
In 1886, Chicago workers took to the streets of the Haymarket to demand something radical for its time: a say in the conditions of their own labor. Nearly 140 years later, the question has evolved — and it's being asked again, right here in this city. If we care about where our products come from, and whether the people behind them were treated fairly, it's worth asking the next question: what if those same people didn't just work the business, but owned and governed it too?
That's the idea behind Employee Owned & Controlled Organizations - a model being pioneered by that combines employee ownership with self-management, giving workers not just a financial stake, but a genuine voice in how the organization is governed.
Just as fair trade challenges the assumption that profit must come at someone else's expense, employee ownership challenges the assumption that businesses must be controlled by a small group at the top. The two ideas are natural companions - and this event is an invitation to explore what happens when you bring them together.
Join us on Thursday, July 9, from 4–6 PM at the Chicago Fair Trade Museum for a practical conversation about alternative ownership and governance models - what they look like, how they work, and whether they might be right for you.
This event is especially relevant for business owners considering succession, social entrepreneurs, and cooperative leaders who want to understand their options beyond private equity or closure. Corporate Rebels North America will share how this model works in practice, and there will be space for real questions and roundtable discussions.
Free and open to all.
