Coro Allegro, Boston's LGBTQ+ and allied chorus, directed by David Hodgkins, will be holding auditions for all voice parts on Thursday, September 5th from 5-9 pm and on Saturday September 7th from 9-12 pm at the Church of the Covenant in Boston. We are especially looking for singers who can sing in the Tenor and Bass range.
Coro Allegro is an auditioned classical chorus, led by Artistic Director David Hodgkins and known for its creative programing, pristine intonation, beautiful sound, and social consciousness. We are looking for singers with excellent musical skills including sight reading and good intonation. The group is all volunteer and rehearses at the Church of the Covenant in Boston's Back Bay from 6-9 pm on Sundays.
During the past season, Coro sang two glorious full length concerts, (the norm is three), performed the National Anthem during Pride Night at Fenway park, performed by invitation at the ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) convention in Providence, and performed at the GALA (Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses) Choruses Festival 2024 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The next season includes works by Kodaly, Bruckner, Fuchs, Bullen, Mozart, a world premiere of a work by Cambodian composer Bosba commissioned specifically for Coro Allegro by the Terezin Music Foundation, and the world premiere of a commissioned work by internationally-recognized composer and Tufts University Professor Kareen Roustrom.
A welcoming and inclusive singing environment is important to us and we celebrate the diversity of our singers. The audition is approximately 15 minutes and consists of a range check, vocalizing, pitch recognition exercises, and sight-singing. You do not need to prepare a solo piece.
