($20-$30 + DICE fees | 6:30pm & 8:30pm) Experience the timeless music of the legendary Ray Brown Trio, one of jazz's most influential bassists and bandleaders. Presented by the Chris Ross Corner Pocket Quartet!
Born in Pittsburgh in 1926, Ray Brown rose to prominence in the late 1940s as a cornerstone of the bebop movement, performing alongside Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker before becoming the longtime musical partner and short-time husband of Ella Fitzgerald. His decades-long collaboration with pianist Oscar Peterson produced some of the most celebrated recordings in jazz history, and his work as a sideman, bandleader, and producer left an indelible mark on the art form before his passing in 2002.
Ray Brown was not only a master of the upright bass, but also a visionary musician, composer, and innovator whose impact on jazz remains unmatched. This performance celebrates his legacy with fresh interpretations of his iconic arrangements and original compositions—each brimming with hard-swinging grooves, soulful melodies, and the unmistakable spirit of classic jazz. Join us for an evening that honors Brown's genius and the enduring energy of his sound.
