CWFEN
Cwfen hail from greyest Glasgow. An occult metal four-piece, they've been exploring shadows together since late 2022.
Blending melody and ferocity, their music explores untold stories. Witches and martyrs. Sinners and saints. Fire. Water. Eternal damnation.
"Cwfen have the riffs, the tone and the stage presence to bring a bit of gothic grime to Glasgow. Nestled at the sweet spot where 80s goth, early Electric Wizard and the occult melodicism of Coven meet, this is occult metal that ticks all the genre’s boxes without succumbing to the theatrical cheesiness that befalls so many. If they sound like this after less than a year together, it’s likely that their next 12 months will bring something spectacular." – Echoes and Dust
"But my best find of the inaugural Core festival is undoubtedly Cwfen. Recently formed by the unholy union of solo project Skltnwmn and post-black metal outfit First Temple of the Atom they are occult witchiness with doom heft. Despite playing in unforgiving mid-afternoon daylight, they transport us to a graveside at midnight. A slash of black across her face, hand outstretched from flowing black gown, Skltnwmn is as captivating as shadow." – The Big Issue
GOUT
Loud, angry, nihilistic; Gout is the doom-inducing metal project from members of Glasgow bands Lucia & the Best Boys and The Ninth Wave. A far cry from these projects, however, Gout distills the intensity of hardcore with the slow crush of sludge forebears. Lyrically, vocalist Ally Scott reflects on some of the most uncomfortable aspects of self, evoking visceral imagery of hopelessness and dread. Gout’s debut EP, ‘Born Rotting’ is not a gentle introduction. Across four songs recorded live in Glasgow the band – like its eponym – is largely unrelenting. Lead single ‘Bed Sores’ sets the tone, opening with 20 seconds of feedback wails and tortured shouts. Brief moments of respite appear here and there, yet are inevitably crushed under the hydraulic weight of the band’s blown out instrumentation and animalistic screams. We should all experience Gout.
THE RHUBARB
The Rhubarb are a stoner doom band from Glasgow Scotland, influenced by Black Sabbath, Sleep, High on Fire and Electric Wizard and Hawkwind. Their combination of male & female driven vocal and high fuzz drugged out riffs proves an extremely potent mix" Glaswegian stoner doom band The Rhubarb have been smithing smoked out riffs, and trance inducing rhythms since forming at Riverside Music College in 2015. After years of playing along side bands like Black Moth, Lord Dying, Mantis Toboggan, Skandal, Juniper Grave, Strauss and shaking the walls of such venues as King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Nice 'N' Sleazy, The Garage, G2, and The 13th Note, The Rhubarb released Black Sun. A 4Track EP encompassing The Rhubarb’s unique sound. Sweeping up lots of air time on online radio stations such as Hard Rock Hell Radio, Metalperv TV, High Speed Hangover podcast, The Rhubarb are vastly spreading their flavour of stoner doom across the land.
