Coral spawning is one of the Great Barrier Reef’s most remarkable natural events. Each year, following the full moon in late spring or early summer, many coral species release eggs and sperm into the water at the same time. The result is a spectacular underwater display that helps create the next generation of corals.
TUSA Reef Tours is one of the only operators offering the opportunity to witness this event from Cairns, with dedicated evening trips to the Outer Great Barrier Reef. Guests can snorkel or dive during two water sessions, with marine biologist commentary, a complimentary dinner and all equipment included.
2026 departure dates: Friday 30 October, Saturday 31 October, Saturday 28 November, Sunday 29 November

Please note: Coral spawning is a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed on any particular evening. The timing is influenced by factors including the lunar cycle, water temperature and environmental conditions. While scientists can predict the likely spawning period, the exact timing and intensity can vary from year to year.
