Sow the City invites Manchester residents to join Nature for Health, a supportive social prescribing programme designed to improve mental health through the power of gardening and community.

What is Nature for Health?

Nature for Health is a specialised service providing Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH). We offer structured, 8-week courses at beautiful community gardens across the city of Manchester.

Whether you’re looking to manage stress, build confidence, or simply get outdoors, our facilitated sessions provide a safe space to grow—both plants and personal resilience.

Is this for me?

Our service is funded by the department of Public Health and One Manchester, specifically designed for residents facing health challenges such as:

• Mild to moderate depression and anxiety
• Stress management
• Low confidence
• Social isolation
• Low physical activity levels
• Lack of community connection
• Disconnection from nature
• Bereavement

What to expect

Duration: A focused 8-session course, of ecotherapy and gardening activities including practical tasks and meditative exercises.

The Experience: You’ll be part of a small group (up to 8 participants), guided by experienced facilitators in a hands-on, relaxed garden environment.

Location: No.93 Wellbeing Centre, 93 Church Lane, Harpurhey, M9 5BG

A peaceful community green sanctuary. There is a heated wooden cabin at the heart of the garden, surrounded by thriving food growing spaces with a blend of edible crops and

ornamental flowers.

Please be aware - after booking, a Sow the City staff member will contact you to complete a short referral form so we can ensure the site offers the best possible options for your requirements.

Note: This service is free for Manchester residents (You must live in the city of Manchester to be eligible to attend) with defined health needs. No prior gardening experience is necessary!
