Under a copper moon, Richmond gathers for a night to remember. The Copper Moon Celebration 2026 is a cinematic evening honoring 66 years of Congolese independence, a celebration of heritage, elegance, and the brilliance of African culture.

This is more than an event. It's an experience: live performance, rich cultural expression, and a community coming together in its finest. Come dressed to celebrate. Leave with memories that last.

An Evening Curated by Excellence
• Antionette Essa, M.Div. — Master of Ceremonies. Beloved Richmond broadcaster, storyteller, and community servant. Former host of The Quiet Storm on KISS FM, anchor at NBC 12 and CBS 6, and Resident Chaplain at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital. More than 35 years of bringing warmth and authenticity to every room she enters.


• Origination Cultural Dance Company featuring the Dibinga SistersA live cultural performance celebrating African dance, music, and storytelling. Origination is traveling from Boston, Massachusetts in honor of this evening and the Congolese community of Richmond. Their presence alone is a gift. 


• Ms. Nana Katanda — Congolese Fashion Designer curating the evening’s fashion showcase. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in African attire — with door prizes awarded for Best Dressed Female, Best Dressed Male, and Best Cultural Style.


• DJ Cool Mix — Spinning Congolese Rumba and African music for the community dance celebration that closes the evening with joy and energy.
