Copper Metalwork: Natural Forging

Before major advancements in jewelry tools and techniques, metal smiths used stones to pound soft metals like copper in to their desired shapes and textures. Native plants were used to polish, scour, and burnish soft metals.

Learn about the original methods of metal forging in this 3 hour jewelry making workshop. All tools and materials will be provided to shape, texture, and polish copper in to wearable art: a necklace hooked on suede cord.

The softness and malleability of copper allows you to manipulate it in to domed forms, stretch the metal, and create indents and marks that leave a lasting imprint of the energy you release through metal forging. You’ll learn how to create jump rings to hook the metal on to a cord.

I will provide the rocks to use for this project and encourage you to bring your own funky, sharp, and round stones- the more texture and crevices on its surface, the more it will add to your sheet of copper.
