You may be familiar with a birthing doula. An end-of-life doula can be looked at in very much the same way, simply at the other end of the spectrum of life. Trained to provide emotional, spiritual, and physical support, an end-of-life doula educates the dying person and their loved ones about the dying process and walks with them every step of the way.
Our speaker for this event is end-of-life doula, Penny M. Clement. Penny is a board-certified patient advocate and the founder of Peaceful Transitions, an end-of-life doula and patient advocate service that focuses on helping individuals and their loved ones through the most significant transitions of their lives. As a doula she focuses on planning, educating, and walking with her clients through the end of life, and providing continuing support to those left behind. As a cancer doula and patient advocate, Penny works with clients who are facing various medical conditions, offering support throughout diagnosis and treatment.
She is also the Programs, Operations, and Partnerships Director as well as course creator and instructor for International Doula Life Movement Institute. The International Doula Life Movement Institute takes great pride in our signature End of Life Doula certification training program, as well as courses across all areas of doula care. To date, IDLM Institute has trained over 3,000 doulas in 18 countries.
Prior to receiving her certification as an end-of-life doula, Penny was the primary caretaker for both of her parents during illness, aging, dementia, and the end of their lives. She was able to fulfill their wishes to pass at home surrounded by loved ones. This inspired her to do everything she could to help others in making as peaceful a transition as possible.
Penny’s previous 24-year career in banking, trust, and wealth management has given her a unique perspective on end-of-life planning and estate settlement that perfectly complements the other aspects of end-of-life doula care. She has a mind for business and a heart for service.
This presentation will highlight how end-of-life doulas offer compassionate, personalized guidance — ensuring the dying person's wishes are honored and that those left behind are supported emotionally, spiritually, and practically during one of life's most profound transitions.
