Conversation with the Curators: American Made (Member-Exclusive Event)

Be among the first to experience two centuries of American art and hear the stories behind the works from two of the experts who helped bring the exhibition together.
Museum members are invited to a special Preview Day for "American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection," featuring Kevin Sharp, Director of the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, and Jonathan Stuhlman, PhD, Senior Curator of American Art at The Mint Museum.
They will give a Member-exclusive talk at 2 pm. Registration for the talk is required.
Drawn entirely from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, "American Made" brings together more than 80 works spanning two centuries of American art. From early portraiture and sweeping landscapes to still lifes, trompe l’oeil, Modernism, and Realism, the exhibition features celebrated artists including John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Robert Henri, Elizabeth Catlett, and Charles Alston.
During this special members-only program, Sharp and Stuhlman will offer an insider’s look at the exhibition, sharing insights into the artists and works on view and the process of bringing highlights from this significant collection together for the first time.
Sharp has led the Dixon Gallery and Gardens since 2007, overseeing significant growth in its collection, exhibitions, scholarship, and community engagement. His career has also included curatorial positions at the Art Institute of Chicago and Norton Museum of Art.
Stuhlman is The Mint Museum’s Senior Curator of American Art and has extensive experience developing exhibitions and scholarship exploring American art. His work with the DeMell Jacobsen Collection helped shape "American Made," and he served as an editor of the exhibition’s accompanying catalogue.
