This season the Valentine’s Controversy/History series invites Richmonders to take stock of the city’s most pressing issues. Everyone in the room is encouraged to share their perspective on hot-button topics, engaging with historical case studies, data, and expert voices along the way. This year, we will examine the “Common Good(s),” highlighting the key shared resources that support a thriving city – and what investment is needed to support them for the future. From transit to infrastructure to arts and media, we will take a look at the threats facing the goods we rely upon as a community. The Valentine is excited to once again partner with PlanRVA to dig into key data around each of these complex topics.
On April 2nd, join us for a conversation about the landscape of public, independent, and community-supports arts organizations in Richmond. Hear from CultureWorks about new data on the local economic impact of public art, and explore how our community can reimagine public art as a key component of the common good. Plus, learn from local arts and media leaders about the challenges their organizations are facing in this moment.
We are excited to feature the following panelists:
Bridé Baker, Interim President at the Virginia Center for Public Press
Scott Garka, President of CultureWorks
Ashley Hawkins, Executive Director at Studio Two Three
Tanesha Powell, Executive Director at Art 180
Controversy/History is free and open to the public. Registration is not required, but encouraged. Enjoy refreshments from a cash bar and dive into the conversation!
