About this Event
A great technical challenge as you increase your glassmaking skills is making bowls and plates. Both of these forms require even turning, controlled heat, patience, and confidence. Improving any of those skills will improve your glassblowing overall. The first day will focus on spinning out plates with a variety of foot options. The second day we will practice various bowl designs. This is a skill building class. Multiple attempts will be encouraged over being too precious about any particular piece. Previous experience required - students should be confident and competent gathering and moving through the steps of making a cup.
What to Expect: Over the weekend class, students will learn how to gather and manipulate molten glass. There will be some demos but it will mainly be supported work time and room for students to become familiar with this material. The students can expect to leave with solid sculptures and blown vessels. Expect failures along with successes. The hot shop is a loud studio, and can get quite warm. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity and ability to lift 5-10 lbs approximately. To learn more about accessibility the Accessibility page on our website.
Eligibility: Previous experience required - students should be confident and competent gathering and moving through the steps of making a cup. Open to ages 14 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at [email protected] if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.
