Contributing to Science 101: The Benefits of using iNaturalist

Explore the transformative power of citizen science, where everyday observations contribute to valuable scientific research. We'll discuss the benefits of citizen science, such as advancing ecological knowledge and fostering community engagement, and highlight how volunteer data is used to address real-world challenges. The session will introduce digital tools like iNaturalist and eBird, empowering participants to document biodiversity and contribute meaningfully to science, empowering everyone to play a role in advancing our understanding of the natural world.

Dr. Corey Callaghan's research group at UF/IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center studies species' responses to anthropogenic environmental changes. Focused on urban ecology, they aim to understand and address global challenges affecting biodiversity in urban environments, with an initial emphasis on South Florida's urbanization impacts. This work contributes to UF/IFAS's mission of developing and disseminating knowledge to enhance the quality of human life while supporting Florida's diverse ecosystems.
