We are pleased to announce the "re-launch" of our Detective Symposium training series. This all-day event, on Wednesday November 5th, starting at 8am (sharp) will cover the below topics.
Chasing Cellphones: more insight on mobile devices and the ECPA from Aaron Edens.
Aaron retired from Hayward PD and now works with NCRIC. He is an expert in high tech investigations and how the evidence from mobile devices can impact your case.
Human Trafficking: Tips and Tricks for “How to Make Your Case Stick.”
Courtney Martin is a Deputy District Attorney at the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. Courtney worked as the vertical prosecutor for human trafficking in Sacramento from 2019 to 2024. Under her tenure, the yearly rate of successful human trafficking prosecutions tripled. She has secured felony convictions with Pr*son sentences in over 100 cases involving human trafficking and exploitation, including a dozen jury trials.

Kate Jewett is a Contra Costa Deputy DA with 11 years’ experience. She is currently in the Homicide Unit.
Courtroom Testimony: Two attorneys will present a live courtroom with audience participation; using real case examples, they will point out pitfalls and issues, allowing us to prepare for future courtroom appearances.
Jessica Murad has been a prosecutor with the District Attorney's Office since 2017. Jessica has served in the Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking units and currently is currently a Misdemeanor Unit Supervisor. Bill Washam spent 9 years as a public defender and private criminal defense attorney in Fresno before transitioning to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office in 2023. Bill currently prosecutes consumer and environmental fraud in the Special Operations Unit.
Juvenile Interrogations: With the ever changing laws for dealing with juveniles, this session will provide a refresher on the “do’s and don’ts” for working with Juvenile suspects.
Katie Eames is a Detective with the Walnut Creek Police Department who specializes in juvenile investigations. Detective Eames has been with WCPD since 2017.
Saron Tesfai started his career as a prosecutor in Contra Costa in 2016 before moving to the Sacramento District Attorney's Office from 2021-2025. Saron recently returned to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's and currently serves in the Law and Motion Unit.
