Contemporary Classes and Pilates at ODD | Nov 18-20 & 22 | 9:30-11am

Starting again this September 2024, ODD will be hosting morning dance classes! Most classes are contemporary dance based, supplemented with periodic Pilates classes and other somatic practices.

Some details:

• Classes take place in Studio B at ODD which is in Arts Court (2 Daly Avenue) on the 2nd floor.

• These are intermediate/advanced level classes, some contemporary dance experience is recommended. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions at [email protected].

• Classes are $12 and can be paid at the end of class in person by cash or card. You may also pay in advance, but ODD cannot absord the Eventbrite fees.

About the class:

An intermediate-advanced level class that is based in contemporary techniques and influences from my dance practice. There will be standing and floor exploration with emphasis on rhythm, range, and responsiveness. Spatial intent coupled with full body listening shapes a foundation for energetic exchange and interpretative choices.

About Yvonne:

Yvonne Coutts is the Artistic Director and resident choreographer for ODD. Her works on the company have been presented at Canada Dance Festivals, Dancing on the Edge, Dance Made in Canada, Festival Quartier Danses, The BWDC, Orillia Arts Centre, the NAC’s Southam Hall, and Le Maison de la Culture in Gatineau. Since 1988, her independent work has been commissioned or presented by the Brian Webb Dance Company, the Winnipeg Dance Festival, Tangente, Danceworks, Public Energy, Four Chambers Dance Project, Women in View, Dancemakers, Arraymusic, Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers, the Canada Dance Festival, and BoucharDanse.She received the Bonnie Bird Choreographic Award from the Laban Center and her commissioned work toured Europe, the United States, and Asia. In 1994, she was in residence at The Place in London, and her solo, Now. In Blue, commissioned by the CDF and CanDance, went on to a Canadian tour. Yvonne was a company member of Le Groupe Dance Lab from 1988 to 1994. She received the Ottawa Arts Council Mid-Career Artist Award in 2015, was nominated for the OAF’s K.M. Hunter Artists Award three times, and was nominated for the OAF’s Eldred Family Dance Award in 2021 and 2023.

Class Description:
The goal of this class is to heighten your body awareness and provide insight into your personal practice by focusing on breath, core activation, and spinal articulation. We will utilize a combination of Pilates Matwork, Fletcher Floorwork and fascia therapy for a full-body movement experience.

Bio:

Sudbury native Jacqueline Ethier is a dance artist, educator, and mother. She has been rooted in the Ottawa dance community since graduating from the Contemporary Dance Programme at The School of Dance in 1999. Jacqueline is a company member with Ottawa Dance Directive (Yvonne Coutts) and collaborates with DORSALE danse (Sylvie Desrosiers). She danced for a nearly a decade with Tara Luz Danse (Anik Bouvrette) in her emerging days. Jacqueline commissioned new works by Peggy Baker, a solo in 2008 and a duet in 2019, both creative processes and experiences that had a profound effect on her multifaceted life as a woman. She is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) and has been a leader in the Health and Wellness community since founding Pilates Space in 2002. Jacqueline studied with first-generation teacher Ron Fletcher and teaches the next generations of teachers as an International Faculty Member with Fletcher Pilates. She believes in the power of movement education to change and enrich lives. Jacqueline has touched the lives of many through her compassionate teaching style which focuses on the somatic experience, is inspired by curiosity and informed by current science.
