Does your museum want to learn more about building lasting relationships with federally recognized American Indian tribes in Texas? Are you looking for ways to integrate tribal history and culture into your interpretation? Join us for this workshop that will address these topics.
Hosted by Friends of the Texas Historical Commission
Cost: $35
Presenters will discuss when and why it’s necessary to work with tribes, and how to identify culturally insensitive practices. Participants will learn how to cultivate two-way relationships with tribal representatives, and how to be respectful of their knowledge and artifacts. Examples of how American Indians have been represented in museums in the past will be contrasted with how they are represented in collaborative or Indigenous-led exhibits.
