----

Boris Johnson’s government has broken with the Thatcherite consensus that has dominated the Conservative Party in different forms for four decades.

With an active state intervening to ‘level up’ the regions, the highest tax burden since Clement Attlee was in government and an unorthodox style of leadership, ‘Johnsonism’ is quickly coming to define the Conservative Party’s current mission.

In the wake of this transformation, this conference seeks to explore different conservative ideologies in order to situate ‘Johnsonism’ within a broader intellectual history.

This conference aims to bring together academics, politicians and policy researchers to answer these questions.

We are excited to announce keynotes and contributions from Prof Tim Bale and Nick Timothy, Joint Downing Street Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Theresa May, Dr Robert Saunders, and Victoria Hewson (Institute for Economic Affairs).
