About this Event

Join West Lothian Rangers and the Conservation Volunteers group to carry out some practical tasks in our greenspaces throughout the county.

For this session we will be working at Easter Inch Moss, situated between Blackburn and Seafield. Easter Inch Moss is West Lothian's first Local Nature Reserve (LNR), designated back in 2007. Along with Seafield Law, the site is a 143 hectare area of peat bog and a former oil shale bing that has been restructered to look like a natural hill. Like many peat bogs in Scotland, Easter Inch Moss is recovering from years of commercial peat extraction, and a lot of work is needed to return it to its former healthy state. To protect the peat bog, our task will be to remove tree saplings to prevent them from maturing into trees and drying up the underlying peat.

All tools and a full tool safety talk will be provided by the Ranger. If you have some, please bring along a pair of gloves with you, and wear appopriate clothing for the weather. Good sturdy footwear is also advised. Please bring along any snacks and drinks you require. No prior experience is necessary to take part in the sessions, new volunteers are always welcome!

The session will run for two hours starting at 10am - the meeting point will be confirmed as soon as possible.
