An Exhibition by Jesús Briceño Reyes
Jesús Briceño Reyes is an Artist-Teacher from the culturally vibrant city of Caracas, Venezuela, whose work explores the intricate connections between art and society, highlighting the relevance of traditional media in contemporary art practice.
Graduating with a Master’s degree from Goldsmiths, University of London, he holds an MFA from the University of the Arts London, and a BFA from the National University of the Arts in Caracas, specialising in painting.
Jesús has showcased his work in numerous galleries and museums across Venezuela, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His work has been recognised by institutions such as the CAF Development Bank of Latin America, the Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) in Long Beach, California, and Bloomberg New Contemporaries at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), London.
Having recently completed an Artist-in-Residence programme at SAC Gallery in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Jesús has now set up his studio in Saigon, where his artwork is attracting considerable interest in the city's blossoming art scene.
"Conscious Sleepers" is a captivating series that delves into urban life, inspired by the daily contrasts of Saigon and other cities, echoing the artist's roots in Caracas, Venezuela.
Crafted since their stay in Saigon in 2023, the series uses paper, silk, and canvas, chosen for their symbolic significance. Through the use of black paint and a spontaneous approach, each artwork captures a moment in time, symbolizing the cycle of transformation and embracing the principles of honesty and transparency.
Through this exhibition, the artist invites viewers to engage with the urban experience on a personal level. Join us for the opening of Jesús's exhibition, where he will showcase the evolution of his recent artistic journey with a collection of old and fresh works.
