About this Event
This support group is for you if:
- You are an adult child within a dysfunctional family (e.g with emotionally immature, narcissistic or alcoholic parents or siblings).
- You would like a safe space to connect authentically with others and reflect honestly on the challenges and achievements of spending time with family over the christmas period without societal pressures or expectations for this to have been a joyus occasion.
- You are an estranged adult child or have spent christmas alone, and seeking connection and belonging with others who get it.
How this group will help you:
- Receive compassionate support from psychotherapist Harriet Gleeson and likeminded peers about the challenges you experienced over the festive period.
- Feel less alone by hearing others share their experiences with (or without) dysfunctional family at christmas.
- Reflect on what went well this year and what you achieved (boundaries you set, managing triggers etc)
- Identify new boundaries you need to set with dysfunctional family moving forwards, how you would like christmas to be next year and what you would like these relationships to look like.
- Plan self-care strategies for the remainder of the christmas/ new year period.
Please note: The group will be facilitated via the free video platform, Zoom. Participants must be based in the United Kingdom. This is not a therapy group and is unsuitable for those in crisis. Whilst there will be space to get emotional support, the focus will be on your here and now experiences and practical ways to self-care and engage with dysfunctional family members. This session will NOT be recorded and refunds will not be granted for any reason if you are unable to attend, so please book mindfully.
Group structure:
-Group check in (Naming your feelings, what you hope to gain from attending the group and anything in particular you might wish to receive some support with from peers)
-Open group discussion and support led by what you wish to bring.
-Group check out (how you are feeling at the end of group, and anything you wish to take away or leave behind from the session).
