We've all heard of pines, spruces, and firs. Now let's learn to easily tell them apart, while learning a few species of each, including those pine species from Europe and Asia commonly found in urban green spaces. In the separate Conifers: Part II we will cover members of the cypress family, including juniper (never to be called "cedar" again), bald cypress, and the now famous dawn redwood – all of which are conifers, or cone-bearing trees.

Please note: Meeting spot is across the street from the American Museum of Natural History at the bronze bust of Alexander Von Humboldt at CPW and West 77th Street This entrance to the park is aptly called "Naturalists' Gate."
