Congressional Gold Medal Recognition Ceremony
Honoring World War II Veteran Anna Mae Robertson
About this Event

On Monday, June 27, 2022, at 1:00 pm CT, Ms. Anna Mae Wilson Robertson of Milwaukee, a member of the Women’s Army Corps 6888th (Six Triple Eight) Central Postal Directory Battalion, will be formally recognized for her heroic service during World War II. Six Triple Eight was the only all-Black Women’s Army Corps Battalion to serve overseas during World War II. These service members sorted and delivered millions of pieces of mail, totaling a six-month backlog, eliminating the backlog of mail in three months, far ahead of schedule. They were sent to France, where they successfully addressed a similar mail backlog. Their motto was “No Mail, Low Morale,” and their hard work helped service members stay connected with their loved ones, supporting countless soldiers on the frontlines in Europe.

Congresswoman Gwen Moore spearheaded legislation to award a Congressional Gold Medal to members of the Six Triple Eight, including Ms. Anna Mae Wilson Robertson, and this legislation was signed into law by President Biden on March 14th, 2022. A Congressional Gold Medal is the highest expression of national appreciation, and this bill gives long overdue honors to the heroes of Six Triple Eight.

This ceremony honors her military service and her selfless devotion to our country.
