About this Event
Welcome to Confluences - Water, Collage and Comics. Join us at the Newcastle Arts Centre for an accessible zine-making workshop. This drop-in session offers space and materials to make a zine (a hand-made magazine or mini-comic). Get inspired by the gallery full of artworks exploring human relationships with water, and express your feelings - or frustrations - about water - how we use it, and in some cases abuse it, and what it ultimately means to you.
This session is family-friendly and suitable for all levels, no experience necessary; All materials provided.
This workshop will be run in the gallery space of the Newcastle Arts Centre, which is hosting the exhibition 'Water and People' between 23 March – 13 April 2024
About the exhibition:
‘Water and People’ is a group exhibition exploring our ways of seeing, experiencing, and relating to water. Through painting, sculpture, poetry, sound, and embroidery, artists explore how we communicate about water, and whose voices are heard in conversations around water security, river health, and climate change.
Alongside artwork flowing from the River Tyne and the Northeast of England, we present creative outputs from community-focused research from the Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub by our partners in Colombia, Ethiopia, India, and Malaysia.
The exhibition is accompanied by ‘Confluences’ – a creative workshop programme bringing people together to discuss the material, social, cultural, and political aspects of our relationships with water.
