Examine social tensions related to climate change, and resolve polarization.
About this Event

A critical element to positive social is learning to hold tension (multiple truths / paradox), disagreement and polarization, and learning channel internalized + externalized anger in healthy ways.

The purpose of this workshop is to investigate and practice using interpersonal tools for conflict resolution, softening polarization, and learning to exist in the paradoxical tension that underpins the questions of "What do we do about the climate crisis… and why should we do it?"

Fundamentally we will learn methods for developing compassion and curiosity for the opinions + actions of ourselves and others in the face of existential social issues.

Positionality

"I am a white male settler facilitating these events from a place of high privilege. I am not a clinical counsellor nor a psychologist but am well read on these topics and have carefully considered and received professional mentorship on the ethical / personal boundaries of what it is safe to unfold in this workshop series. I am in the process of learning alongside all participants and am open to any feedback that anyone wishes to express."

The Series

Each session will be mutually exclusive. However, it is preferable for participants to show up to as many sessions as possible with the goal of collective learning, developing a sense of safety/trust, and developing a sense of community. Doors will close 5-minutes after the session starts in respect of the container that will be held unless advanced notice of a late arrival is given.

Feel free to bring any tokens / items that are personal to you to place in the center of the room for the purpose of invoking a sense of connection to nature (i.e. rocks, acorns, leaves, trinkets)

Note - There is potential to un-earth challenging emotions during these sessions. We ask that participants show up with an open heart/mind holding compassion and curiosity for the personal expressions of others as paramount. We also ask that participants manage their own anxiety / stress / sense of overwhelm and take space from the group if needed. There are plenty of comfortable spaces in the common areas of theDock to re-ground.
