The event celebrates 40 years of cooperation of the UNM Honors College and the UNM Department of Spanish and Portuguese in presenting CONEXIONES, an integrated program of Spanish language and cultural exploration. CONEXIONES summer field programs in Mexico, Spain, Nicaragua, and Ecuador have served hundreds of undergraduate students while offering a smaller number of graduate students and Honors student teachers an opportunity to participate while being mentored in the ins and outs of teaching in and administrating integrated cross-cultural, study abroad programs. Here is the itinerary (subject to small shifts and changes:2:00-2:30 pm: Check in (Library or Parlor)
People show up to check-in, mingle and visit before scheduled events begin.
2:45-3:45 pm: Flash Talks (Bobo Room, with AV)
4-6 specially selected Conexiones faculty and/or alums give a short Flash Talk (10 minutes max; TED Talks style) about specific aspects of Conexiones.
4:00-5:15 pm: Storytelling (Library or Parlor)
Moderated by founders Michael Thomas and Enrique Lamadrid. Conexiones alums and faculty informally tell brief stories about fun, interesting, challenging, or unusual things that happened from any Conexiones years.
5:30-7:30: Dinner and Keynote (Bobo Room)
After everyone has eaten, around 6:00 or so and as a Prelude to honoring Michael and Enrique with awards for outstanding service to UNM Honors and UNM Spanish and Portuguese. Margo Chavez-Charles and Dr. Anna Nogar, long time Conexiones faculty and leaders will give the Keynote.
All Conexiones Alums, faculty members and others connected to the program(s) are invited including students from the '90's era Distant Neighbors classes. (Distant Neighbors was a Spring Break spin-off of Conexiones that incorporated most features of the Summer programs)
Here is a link that will allow people to RSVP (this is important especially for those planning to attend the dinner). The form will also allow people who are unable to come to communicate comments, stories, photos, congratulations, etc. the link is kind of ponderous (I do not know how to create and efficient hyperlink on FB) https://8to6kihbb.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001srqVWOI2YqhCLC4YINq8QA3cRpNqG8CI-xGbD4NugtyjNNmNjBh2xqHePRu7Aw41qwrMsMSKRRnsxveUCIa23wy1E7eM2E7qv6A7SwBRdhhQX9XHdWewMcysWExnL4SiBLhS-YJdyDRrcGVVr32wXdnG5NvjcQvAmkTO_9lD97foaCbZ3sYjE5FxJQqFPagtEamlWDpk0kNDlyPRmpxD_sJRIgJznU3fsKNG3C9AC5cEwCO3bpccuZanbcLGYcrUPyvY2V0QqX8=&c=Rw33xBTRXSP-uVz_8xqrvB6Nvc8fBkto37iqFFrc8lq8siSv8a2btQ==&ch=4_Feu_2CM1PQzokPgzejBB7Hb3t5w8Mos1i5GCl214PPQHQoTHY3jw== Sorry about the link, you may have to cut and paste it into your browser.
