About this Event
Conduit Conversations is back with another talk focused on the Abstract Mindset brings together three dynamic voices in contemporary abstraction—Damon Mescudi, Michi Meko, and Quamaine Giles—for an intimate dialogue on how abstract thinking shapes artistic practice, process, and purpose.
This conversation moves beyond surface aesthetics to examine abstraction as a mindset: a way of seeing, questioning, and responding to lived experience, cultural memory, and material exploration. Each artist approaches abstraction through distinct visual languages—ranging from gestural mark-making and layered symbolism to conceptual frameworks rooted in identity, environment, and history—yet all share a commitment to pushing beyond literal representation.
Moderated in the spirit of Conduit Conversations, by Hopeton S Hibbert the talk will explore:
- How abstraction functions as both freedom and discipline
- The role of intuition, experimentation, and intellectual rigor in abstract work
- Navigating audience interpretation, misinterpretation, and meaning
- Abstraction as a tool for personal truth-telling and cultural commentary
Designed to bridge generations and practices, Conduit Conversations invites artists, collectors, and community members into a thoughtful exchange on how abstract art continues to evolve—and why it remains essential to contemporary discourse.
